What path to build replacement LED boards of different color?

I am interested in building replacement LED boards. These boards would be the same size to allow the same lens to be used. The plan is to use an LED of the same electrical specs to avoid any circuit changes.

My thought is for a 'direct replacement' of a different color.

Has anyone done this already or have suggestions?

Can the LED board be copied? Is the PCB layout available to be sent to a board house?

It seems a few people are interested in other colors for special applications. Me too!

I'll find the LED but I need a board to put it on. Is the board already available without LED?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

I would suggest to use an off-the-shelf "star" type Metal Core PCB, like this one:

You have to make sure that the footprint on the PCB matches the LED model you plan to use. As you will see, the same supplier linked above also has a wide range of "star" PCBs adapted to other popular models of LEDs.
